Keith
Joubert is one of South Africa’s leading painters
of contemporary wildlife, environmental and tribal themes.
He lives and works in wild places and travels continually
in pursuit of answers to questions that trouble and inspire
him. Keith often focuses on issues related to people living
subsistence lifestyles while coming into conflict with wildlife
species under pressure to survive – and how this conflict
is resolved. His paintings depict the full cycle of life
forms from the cellular level to the greater land mammals
such as elephants and rhinos. Keith occasionally works in
bronze sculpture as an added dimension to the understanding
of his subject matter. Earthy and abstract imagery intermingles
in oil on canvas with the mysterious and magical - offering
both reality and the transcendent together within the grandeur
of African landscapes. |
